Case Study: Major Remodel
The Skycrest residence was originally built in 1948. Over
the years, it had been added onto but the floorplan was confusing and not very
cohesive. The challenge was to design a completely new home while maintaining
the original footprint. The second story had to be shifted over the original patio
cover area in order to maintain the minimum setback required by the city. Since
this property offered spectacular views to Long Beach and Catalina Island, view
preservation was a key factor with the surrounding neighbors. Using computer-generated
models, neighbors were presented an accurate depiction of not only what the end
product would look like but how the new structure would NOT impact their views.
Ultimately, this process won the support of neighbors and the city planning commission
which overwhelmingly granted the permits to build.
The Church Hill property is a custom luxury single-family
spec home. This gallery shows how computer generated renderings were used as a
valuable tool from concept to construction completion. Realtors were able to show
potential buyers what the home would look like before a single hammer was lifted.
The renderings also gave subcontractors a very vivid idea of what they were building
which couldn't be provided to them by construction plans alone.
